“I am deeply honored to be selected the University of Vermont’s next president,” said Garimella, who is also the Goodson Distinguished Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Purdue. “I look forward to listening to and engaging with the entire campus community, as well as the state and region, as we collectively identify the vision, strategies and creative approaches that will propel UVM into the next decade and beyond. Above all, we must emphasize our considerable strengths, while seeking opportunities for deliberate innovation designed to increase the accessibility to UVM’s learning, discovery, and engagement missions, and their impact.”

Garimella has received many honors and awards throughout his career, such as being appointed to the National Science Board in 2018 and being appointed as a Jefferson Science Fellow in the International Energy Office of the U.S. Department of State in 2010, according to an UVM release. In addition, he served as a Senior Fellow in the department’s Energy and Climate Partnership of the Americas for six years and as the U.S. Department of State delegate to the International Energy Agency.

Garimella received a bachelor’s degree from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, a master’s degree from The Ohio State University and a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley.
